16. Osceola County School for the Arts

US News has found that Osceola County School for the Arts, located in Kissimmee, Florida, has an above average student score in both Reading and Math. In fact, just over 70% of all its students are proficient in math while 88% of all students are proficient in reading.

The high school has a 25:1 student-teacher ratio and over 50% of all Osceola County School for the Arts students who have taken the API test have passed.

This high school has a very high number of female students (who make up over 70% of the entire student body) as well as a very high number of minority students (currently 73% of the student body). It is ranked as being the 228th best high school in the United States by US News.

Osceola County School for the Arts has earned high review ratings on both Trulia.com and Greatschools.org. The overwhelming majority of students and parents note that the school offers an excellent learning environment for students and is welcoming of young people of all ages and from all walks of life.

The school’s sole disadvantage is the fact that it does not offer much in the way of sports (as noted by commentators on CityData.org); even so, the fact that OSCA has a high standard for its students and offers mentoring to its younger students make the school an ideal option for anyone who lives in Osceola County (applications from non-residents are not generally accepted).

It is not just the high school that stands out; Kissimmee itself is a fascinating touristic city with a wide variety of attractions listed by TripAdvisor. It is located less than an hour’s drive from Orlando and the fact that the city is dedicated to the education of its children is underscored by the fact that the county’s school district is the top employer in the area according to recent Wikipedia statistics.
